Privacy, in plain words.

Sidequest is built to get you off your phone, not to farm your data. Here's what we collect, why we need it, who sees it, and how to wipe it.

Effective Oct 27, 2026 About 8 min read

The short version.

The full policy is below and it's the one that counts. This is the gist.

Rule 1Always

We don't sell your data.

Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.

Rule 2Always

No ad tracking.

No ad networks, no tracking pixels, no following you around other apps.

Rule 3Default

Friends only.

Your posts go to friends. Squad proofs stay in the squad. There's no public feed.

Rule 4Optional

Location is rough.

Only if you turn it on, rounded to about a kilometer, and never shown to anyone.

Rule 5Anytime

Delete in two taps.

Settings, Account, Delete account. Your profile, posts and XP go with it.

Rule 6Always

13 and up.

Sidequest isn't for kids under 13, and we delete accounts we learn belong to one.

01

Who we are

Sidequest is a social app that drops one real-life quest a day, lets you post proof to your friends, and do quests together with your squads. The app is run by [Company] Labs LLC ("Sidequest", "we", "us").

This policy covers the Sidequest iOS app, our website, and any support you get from us (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to the way we handle information described here. If you don't agree, please don't use Sidequest.

02

What we collect

We only collect what the app actually needs to work. Here's all of it.

Stuff you give us

Account infoRequired
Your name, username, email address, phone number and birthday. We use your email or phone to send you sign-in codes.
ProfileOptional
A profile photo, bio, avatar color, and the traits and primaries you pick during setup.
Proof and postsWhen you post
Photos and videos you upload as proof, captions, comments, upvotes and downvotes, and quests you complete or skip.
SquadsWhen you join
Squads you create or join, squad chat messages, quest suggestions and your squad votes. Squad votes are anonymous to other members.
Quest packsWhen you make one
Packs you create, the quests in them, who you share them with and your progress. If you use AI to draft a pack, the idea you type in.
Reports and supportWhen you reach out
Anything you send us when you report a post or person, or email us for help.

Stuff we get when you allow it

LocationOpt in
If you allow location, we save a rounded version of your coordinates (two decimal places, roughly 1 km) and your city, so quests can fit where you live. We don't track your location in the background and we never show it to other people. You can turn it off any time.
ContactsOpt in
If you tap "Find friends from contacts", the app reads phone numbers from your address book and checks them against Sidequest accounts so you can add people you know. We use those numbers for the match and don't store your address book.
Camera and photosOpt in
Used only when you take or pick a photo or video to post. We only get what you choose to upload.
NotificationsOpt in
A push token from your device so we can send the daily drop, squad updates and friend activity, plus your notification and quiet hours settings.

Stuff the app creates as you play

Game dataAutomatic
XP, levels, streaks, shields, rerolls, your daily quests and quest history.
Social graphAutomatic
Your friends, friend requests, and anyone you block or mute.
Technical dataAutomatic
Basic logs our servers keep to run the Service and keep it secure, such as IP address, device type, app version and timestamps.
!

What we don't collect: we don't use ad networks, ad identifiers, third-party analytics SDKs or tracking pixels, and we don't buy data about you from anyone.

03

How we use it

  • To run the app. Create your account, sign you in, deliver your daily quest, post your proof, run squads, and keep track of XP and streaks.
  • To make quests fit you. Your traits and primaries shape your daily draw, your birthday keeps quests right for your age, and your rough location (if on) keeps them doable where you are.
  • To connect you with friends. Usernames, phone numbers and contacts matching help you find people you actually know.
  • To send notifications you've turned on, like the 8 AM drop.
  • To keep people safe. Review reports, enforce our rules, block abuse and spam, and protect the Service.
  • To fix and improve Sidequest. Debug problems and figure out which features work.
  • To talk to you about your account, support requests and important changes.
  • To follow the law and respond to valid legal requests.

If you're in the EU, UK or a similar place, our legal bases are: running the Service you asked for (contract), your consent (location, contacts, camera, notifications), our legitimate interests in keeping Sidequest safe and working, and legal obligations.

04

Who can see what

Anyone on Sidequest

Your username, display name and profile photo, so friends can find you.

Your friends

Your quest posts, proof, comments and level (you can hide your level in settings).

Your squads

Squad proofs and the squad chat. Squad posts never show up in the main feed.

Only you

Your birthday, email, phone, location, shields and settings.

Anything you post can be screenshotted or saved by the people who can see it, so only post what you're cool with your friends having. You can turn off appearing in friend suggestions in settings.

05

Who we share with

We never sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising. We share it only in these cases:

  • Service providers who help us run Sidequest and are only allowed to use data to do that job:
    • Supabase hosts our database, file storage for photos and videos, and sign-in.
    • Expo and Apple Push Notification service deliver push notifications.
    • Anthropic drafts quests when you use AI pack creation. We only send the pack idea you type in, not your name or profile.
    • Email and SMS providers send your sign-in codes.
  • Other users, as described in "Who can see what".
  • Legal and safety reasons, when we believe in good faith it's required by law or needed to protect someone's safety, stop fraud or abuse, or defend our rights.
  • Business changes. If Sidequest is merged, acquired or sold, your information may move with it, and this policy will still apply to it.
  • With your permission, in any other case.
06

Teens

You must be at least 13 to use Sidequest. We ask for your birthday when you sign up and don't let anyone younger than 13 create an account. If we learn we've collected info from a child under 13, we delete the account and its data.

Lots of our players are teens, so we build with that in mind: there's no public feed, no strangers can message you, quests are always positive and never adult, your birthday and location are never shown, and you can block, mute and report anyone.

?

Parents and guardians: if you think your kid under 13 has an account, or you want to ask about your teen's data, email privacy@[domain] and we'll help.

07

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, posts, proof, XP and the squads you own right away from the live app. Copies in backups are cleared within 30 days.

We may keep limited records longer when we need them for safety, legal or fraud reasons, and only for as long as needed. Basic server logs are kept for a short time and then deleted.

08

Your choices and rights

  • Edit your info any time in your profile and settings.
  • Turn off permissions for location, contacts, camera and notifications in the app or in your iPhone settings.
  • Control who sees you by hiding your level, leaving friend suggestions, or blocking and muting people.
  • Get a copy of your data. Email us and we'll send you an export of your profile, posts, traits, friends, squads, packs and XP history.
  • Delete your account in Settings, Account, Delete account. It's permanent.

Depending on where you live (for example California or other US states, the EU or the UK), you may also have the right to access, correct, delete or port your data, object to or limit certain uses, and withdraw consent. We'll honor these no matter where you live, and we won't treat you differently for using them. To make a request, email privacy@[domain]. We may need to confirm it's really you first. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Since we don't sell or share personal information for targeted ads, there's nothing to opt out of there.

09

Security

We use encryption in transit, private storage for proof photos and videos, sign-in with one-time codes instead of passwords, and database rules so people can only reach data they're allowed to see. No system is perfect though, so we can't promise data will never be exposed. If something happens that affects you, we'll let you know as the law requires.

10

Where data lives

Sidequest is based in the United States and our providers store data in the US. If you use Sidequest from somewhere else, your information will be moved to and processed in the US. When the law requires it, we use safeguards like Standard Contractual Clauses for those transfers.

11

Changes to this policy

As Sidequest grows (like adding leaderboards, a battle pass or sponsored quest packs), this policy will change too. We'll update the date at the top, and if it's a big change we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
